We are getting ready to paint the house and here are the choices. I already know what we are choosing, but would love to know your opinion. Note that we will be painting the house one color and our shakes/shingles on the top half of our house another color. For sure the trim will be black, and the red you see there, thats goin’ somewhere but that will be a surprise when you come over.
Paint job.
The dust will never settle
So this week I called in a wood floor refinisher guy on Tuesday to get a quote. Our old floors look so nasty next to our new shiny bamboo floors I can hardly stand it. I had a budget in mind and he came in $100 under it so woo hoo. So I ask Peter the floor man how far out he is and he said he could start Friday and be done Monday. Wow! So I called Mark and he said go for it since the kids will be with grammy all day on Friday and then we will be in SF overnight on Saturday so that just leave a few days of being cramped up in our new space. Last night we did a mad dash to move everything into our new space. Can you believe we were able to fit a queen bed, a crib, a twin bed, 1 dresser in the closet, 1 dresser in the room, a very tall book shelf, a skinny tall cabinet and a big chair in our new bedroom! I will post pics once I find the cable thingy!
Soon, final pics.
So after letting you all know my financial stress I will soon have pics for you. It is just about done. Actually it is livable. We have the final inspection tomorrow, which we know will not pass but we decided to have one done so we can get their list of stuff they still want to see done or re-do. The kitchen cabinets are just about up, we just need to fork over more $$$ for the countertops. On a better financial note, the good news is that our house is now worth just about a half million, wowee zowee!
Home Addition week 8
Yes, it is week 8. And I was motivated enough to take some pictures. Here.
And I got all I needed to prime those fresh new walls of mine, including some expensive new lambs hair rollers at $15 each. I was assured they will last forever if I treat them with love. And I will get a excellent finish. So who wants to come over and paint this weekend? I can provide some tasty snacks and some stiff drinks.
Home Addition Week 6, 7, 8 ???
I have lost count. At this point I think it will go on for 300 weeks. I don’t really feel a end, but actually it really is progressing. The new bedroom and bathroom progress is not bothering me it is my kitchen that needs to get done. This is the first week where I feel like I am going crazy. Toys, drywall pieces and dust are everywhere. This weekend me and Mark are painting the kitchen. It is going to be a big job. We have to primer the new drywall and the old walls and then slap on a few hundred coats of paint. Not to mention we have to clean with tsp all the old paint in the kitchen and fill in the holes with cement filler. No spackle here, we have block walls. Oh and we have to find a shop vac and vacume the hundred tons or so of dust in the kitchen. Oh and I just remembered that we need to prime all the new drywalled walls, and get started on the new bathroom since the tilework will get started in there hopefully in the next week or so.
On a exciting note, I got my new semi professional range and we got our new super fancy dishwasher. It is just waiting to get hooked up. It is currently sitting in our packed to the ceiling garage.
I promise to post pictures on Monday.
Home Addition week 5
Here are the pics! They are over on Marks Flickr…
This weekend we packed up our kitchen. We have dishes in my closet, pots and pans in the kids closet. Stuff is everywhere! The fridge is in our living room. Last night we had our first kitchenless dinner. Turkey sandwiches and PB&J. Im sure we will be eating that for awhile. The boys are here and getting ready to tear out the kitchen cabinets. Then the wall gets punched out. It will be so nice to have a larger kitchen and a dishwasher! And nice clean bright wood floors!
Also, they just brought in our new windows for the bedroom. They look really cool. Im sure I will have some even more exciting pictures for you later this week.
Home Addition Week 4
I never got around to taking week 4 pictures, but wait until you see week 5 pictures! We had more issues with the city inspectors but we are back on track, again. By Friday we should be all framed in. On Monday we say goodbye to our kitchen. This is the part where I am starting to stress. We need to find a few more cabinets since we are adding some more space, a new floor, new dishwasher, possibly new sink and new stove. And since we are bumping the kitchen into our current bedroom we will probably start sleeping in the kids room. Those will be some good pictures!
Home Addition Week 3
Check out the flickr for new pictures. You can actually see where the new addition is going to be, amazing! But of course the city did not pass the first phase of our inspection, grrr! So the boys are back here right now fixing what needs to be fixed then Thursday we await inspection again and hopefully Friday cement gets poured and we are off and running again! Minus the failed inspection, things are really moving fast.
Home Addition week 2
Finally! After 2 weeks of a slight stall in the project we are onto week 2. Our patio and cover is finally gone. Monday they dig and Tuesday they pour a foundation and then we await inspection and then onward!
Here are some pics.
Home Addition week 1
Okay, its starting. Bob the builder called yesterday and said our permits are released. Week 1 started with cutting down our trees in the front and the back. Our home is unbelievably bright now. We plan on planting new trees soon. Here is the tree we are planting in our front yard.
Here are pictures of the guys cutting down our trees. A shady bunch but a whole lot cheap!
