Premeditated

Filed under: Another day, another way... — Administrator @ 8:23 am

I have a confession. Friday evening, I had to go out to the store and get milk for the kids. So I gathered up my purse and through a fork in there. Why did I throw a fork in my purse? Well, I had a huge sweet tooth I had to satisfy. Of course I got the milk, but I also got a slice of carrot cake in the bakery. Yes, I could have got cake for the kids, but if was after 7pm, and I don’t let my kids drink or eat sugar after 7. And Mark, well he just does not like to indulge in the sweet tooth with me. I got my milk, and my carrot cake in my cute pink bakers box and head home. Instead of hiding in the kitchen and pretending to be busy and stuffing my face in a corner away from the kids, I park it in the driveway, whip out my fork and dive into that sweet cream cheese frosting and chewy cake and watch my kids heads bob up and down on the couch while they watch Monsters Inc. It was pretty funny sitting there watching my kids cute heads bob up and down and laughing at myself while I stuffed my face and shuffled my ipod around. The things a mother will do for some peace and sweet.

Does it bother me that only Shrek can sooth my crying baby? You bet!

I left my heart at the Toronado

Filed under: Another day, another way... — Administrator @ 7:21 am

Im back from a overnighter in SF all by my little ol’ self. The whole purpose of this trip was to go to the Toronado Barley Wine Festival, get away from the kids, and as I like to say, add a few more years to our marriage. But, no one was able to take our kids for a overnighter so Mark sent me on my way. I was going to skip the festival, but I just had to go. So the first thing I do when I get in the city is trek to the Haight, park and walk right into the Toronado. The Toronado was sooooooooooooo packed. It was the first day of the festival and it was in full force. It was truly excited, especially if you are a big barley wine drinker. I did manage to edge myself up to the bar and I ordered 2 beers thinking that I would drink those, say I was at the festival and go check into my hotel. But after that first beer, the buzz of my buzz came on, I was text messaging Mark so it was like he was right there with me, the fantastic positive energy of everyone in the bar and all the excitement lead me torwards the bar for just one more. Then I meet Dave and Mia. I called them the future Mark and Kristyn. It was really uncanny how much they were like us. They were about 20 years older and they had 2 kids in college. I piggybacked on them for the rest of my time at the festival. We ended up ordering 13 more barley wines together (don’t worry, they were about 1 or 2 ounces and we shared them.) After my 16th barley wine, I could stomach no more. I was starving and I had to pee really bad!

I race on to my hotel, pull into valet parking at the St. Francis ($45 later!) and head to the bathroom, whew. No one else was in the bathroom so I moaned in delight as the river rush of my pee sunk into the toilet.

I wanted to get shopping at Lush and I really really needed to eat. I head to Lush, which is just 1 block away from my hotel and indulge in all my favorites. Ohhhh delicious. Then I find the most uncrowded place to eat so I can just walk in. I found a “authentic” mexican restaurant around the corner from my hotel and they shooo the girl with jeans and no reservations into a tiny table for 2 at the very back of the place. I feasted on carnitas, black beans, guacamole and corn tortillas till I could eat no more.

My evening ended with a bath of Lush products and 2 chocolate bars.

The only element that was missing was Mark. I really really really really really missed him.

Again I said the dude word. Now I can’t stop. So the latest happened on Friday (again). Mark and I were enjoying our usual Ruination Friday when it was time for a second beer. I was bringing out 2 Red Hooks when I glanced at the clock and I saw it was 4:20. I handed Mark his beer and said “Its 4:20 Dude.”

Not only did I say dude, I said 4:20?!!!!???!!!!!! Late dude.

R&R

Filed under: Another day, another way... — Administrator @ 8:26 am

Here is my plan for my weekend.
1. Sleep, uninterrupted
2. Read, uninterrupted. I really need to get a big chunk read out of this book (The Little Friend) in time for book club in March.
3. Lush. No one told me there was a Lush in SF!!!! Shop shop shop, my favorite-Bubble Bath Bars! No more expensive flights to London or Canada.
4. American Rag
5. Saigon Sandwich Shop. In the tenderloin on Larkin St. If you don’t hear from me, worry! But I have to try that sandwich. Description:barbecue chicken (banh mi ga) comes on a french roll with pickled carrots, cilantro and jalapenos for just $2
6. Barley Wine??? I may venture solo over to the Haight, but not sure yet.

Walker

Filed under: Another day, another way... — Administrator @ 8:42 am

I think Ollie is FINALLY on the road to walking. I try with him everyday but he has no interest. Ollie is 15 months and a very tall and heavy boy; he really needs to get walking! BUT yesterday I tried again and was very very persistent about telling him to walk to mommy, walk to mommy. And he did! He was totally into it. He will probably full on walk this weekend with Mark while I am in SF. I will just make Mark push him down if he tries and we can continue Sunday evening.

The kids are alright

Filed under: Another day, another way... — Administrator @ 8:33 am

Don’t worry, the kids are alright and alive. In fact after my last post Ella has been really great. She is usually just peachy when it is just the two of us on Tuesdays. Grammy takes Ollie and me and Ella get one on one. We made cherry chocolate chip cookies for her (our) parents/tots class Valentines party and I thought they turned out pretty tasty and very kid friendly.

Wait, Ella was a little unruly yesterday starting about 5. She decided she didn’t need a nap. So if she even tapped her arm on the door in passing, it was a total breakdown. And she ended up getting sick with Marks cold so she was up most of the night coughing and crying if I was not in bed with her. So I am pretty tired, but somewhat energized (coffee). I will no doubt start to crash around 2:30 today.

Happy Valentines Day!!!!! XXOO

It’s all about Ella

Filed under: Another day, another way... — Administrator @ 7:47 am

Somedays I really think Ella is going to be a serial killer/boozing/sneak out of the house teen/hussy/fighting kind of girl. It has been really difficult with her since Thursday. Lets see, actually Thursday was pretty great. It was on our drive home down H St that it started. She wanted some toy, juice ?? Can’t remember, but she did throw an absoulute fit. Screaming and crying! I almost rearended about 5 cars when finally I pulled into a church (picture sunset and choir singers) and yes I pulled out the F bomb about 2 times (sorry lord). I was soooooo mad. I was more mad at myself for almost crashing the car and getting so distracted and putting my kids in danger. I get out and hand her whatever it was she was crying about and that was that. Oh, I did apologize profusely for yelling. And to make me fill like more crap, Ella apoloziges for screaming. “Sorry mommy for screaming, Im Sorry.” Wheres Ollie in all this, oh he is just back there happy as can be as usual. Now we are onto Friday. Thank you Linda for taking her on Fridays because by then we are really at each other. She just cried and whined from wake up till 11am. Had a fabulous day with Ollie. Went to the park with Shannon and Leilani and let him crawl around and get dirty. Saturday started out great. I was taking Ella to her first movie, yes it was that Pooh Hefalump movie. We got popcorn and candy and she sat in her seat and watched the movie. She was a peach! Afterwords, I thought it would be fun to go to lunch. We go to Rubios which is only a few doors down and I thought it would be perfect to order nachos. What kid doesn’t like chips and cheese. Apparenlty Ella (”Its to yucky to me”) There is a huge fish tank and she wanted to look at the fish which I told her to go for it, it was just right there and those nachos were really good. Ella started to get angry and she pushed my tray of nachos and in doing so she spilled my drink on the nachos. I was so overwhelmed that I just picked them up and tossed them in the garbage and grabbed Ella by the hand and left. She cried all the way to the car (”I want to see the fish, I want to see the fish”) I was that mom pulling her kid by the hand across the parking lot while said kid is crying and screaming her head off. I was so mad when we got home, I went to my bedroom and just layed down while Mark fed them lunch. That night, Mark had a gig so I was on my own. I was not looking forward to it. Everything is going good. We are playing outside and blowing bubbles and drawing with chalk. Then Ella decides she needs Ollies chalk and grabs it, Ollie cried and tries to get it back and Ella pounds him on the head with the chalk. Okay, lets go inside. 2 screaming kids and onlooking neighbors. Its time for Nemo, Im done! I am so drained. I let them eat PB&J and goldfish in the living room while I settle with a magazine. (There was lots more hitting from Ella all night still but you can only write about so much hitting right?) I ended the evening by sneaking into the bath. Ella caught on and came on in while who knows what Ollie was doing but he was not crying. I just heard him watch the movie and crawl around and drag toys around. I was having a nice soak when Ella decides to get the bubbles and start scrubbing me down, although it was mostly just my left shoulder it was very heavenly. I decided to turn around so she could get my back and she did a fabulous job. By then she was soaked and I took her shirt off and then she decided she should get in with me. So I let her and it was so cute. She was into lounging like me and talking in her sweet Ella voice that I love. But once out and relaxed, the hitting and screaming began. Let the count down to bedtime begin! Sunday, I just had to leave. I left Mark (my sweet valentine) who was also sick in charge and I went shopping and out to lunch with myself. Fabulous! Apparently the kids (Ella) were not very good.

Rock!

Filed under: Another day, another way... — Administrator @ 7:56 am

I was listening to the new Lou Barlow album Emoh on my way to McKinley park yesterday with the kids. Very acoustic/lullabyeish, so the kids were digging it. About half way into it, Lou busts out a cover of Ratts Round-n-Round. It was great, and even greater I check my rear view mirror and I see Ella back there rockin’ out and swaying her head side to side. Rock!
